Hi, Fiona Soutter here from Super Savvy Business and welcome to our latest Word of the Week.
00:10 – How do you deal with URL typos?
I have just got off a coaching call with one of my clients from the Savvy Mastermind program and she was in a bit of a state of panic because she realized that a post that she released last week that was pushed through social media has actually got a typo in the URL.
The URL, obviously, was keyword-rich and having a typo in the URL such as that is not going to do you any favors as far as helping you to rank for those keywords that you are after.
Now, I told her to take a deep breath and just to calm down because there is a simple way you can fix it. Obviously, if you have already started promoting this post throughout the internet, pushed it through your social media channels and so on, you don’t want to then go back and change the link so that when people click on it, it is actually a broken link.
You can get around this by fixing the error, making the spelling correct and then using what we call a 301 redirect. Basically, what happens is you redirect from the old URL with the typo to the new URL which has the correct spelling.
Now, for those of you who are not technically savvy and perhaps do not know how to do a 301 redirect, if you are using an open-source platform such as WordPress there are plugins you can use that can easily help you to set up these redirects. Just type into Google “301 redirects” or “best 301 redirect plugins” and search for a plugin that will allow you to do this simply and easily.
1:42 – FREE Webinar – Discover the Top 10 TRENDS for SEO in 2014 – sign up now
Last night we had a fantastic webinar of the Top 10 Trends for SEO and Online Marketing for 2014 and I received some fantastic feedback. I did it for a private group. but what I have decided to do is actually do this webinar and open it up to the public.
If you would like to find out what the top 10 trends are, then this webinar is going to be held on the
1st of April at 10:00 AM Sydney time.
Click on the link below if you want to learn how to avoid SEO penalties:
One of the things I talked about was: Matt Cutts has basically come out and said that if you have advertisements on your website at the top of the site, that can cause you problems as far as ranking is concerned.
The reason is because people started to complain because they found a search engine result, they thought that they had found the content they were looking for, they clicked on the link and when they got to the site all they saw was ads. The content was actually below the fold.
This can cause you problems, as Google is starting to crack down on sites that are very top heavy with ads.
This is one of the things that we discussed.
We also talked about news straight from the horse’s mouth: Eric Schmidt from Google; some of the things he talked about in relation to Google Authorship. We talked more about content marketing and other topics as well.
So if you are wanting to grow your business and you are feeling confused, you don’t know how to get a lot of traction in the online space, how to actually draw more traffic to your site and convert that traffic into paid customers, then this webinar is for you.
I highly recommend that you register; just click on this link:
I will be also hosting a live Q&A session at the end of the webinar so if you have any questions specifically related to your business and what you need help with, then that is your opportunity to speak directly to me.
That’s all we have for today’s video. I will look forward to speaking to you again in our next Word of the Week. My name is Fiona Soutter, take care.
