0:37 – Guest blog posting: Google says it’s spam, business owners know it’s gold
1:31 – Four core features of the right guest blogging site for you
Hi, it’s Fiona Soutter from Super Savvy Business. Today I want to touch on guest blog posting.
For those of you who are in my community you would have heard me speak about the topic of guest blog post earlier this year, when basically Google came out to say that guest blog posting is dead as far as a strategy for link building.
But what I wanted to talk about today is that it certainly isn’t dead for many factors.
0:37 – Guest blog posting: Google says it’s spam, business owners know it’s gold
Whilst guest posting might not be as effective these days as far as a backlinking strategy, it is still an essential part of getting more exposure, getting more eyes on your content so that you can attract targeted traffic, and therefore leads and sales.
So it is something that I would like you to consider as far as your overall digital marketing strategy.
However, you might be asking yourself the question “How do I know where the good places are to have guest blog posts?”, because there certainly are some sites you definitely do not want to be posting on. If you’re posting on a poor quality site or a site deemed as spammy, that could actually harm your sites, your authority, and your reputation.
So I have some simple strategies and a bit of a checklist for you to go through in identifying the best places to get guest blog posts.
1:31 – Four core features of the right guest blogging site for you
Here are the four criteria you should be looking at:
First of all, looking at authority. The main authority is something that is very easy to measure, and you can use a tool called AHREFS. It will give you a clear understanding on where the authority of this site sits.
The other thing you want to be thinking about is the traffic to that site. How much traffic is enough traffic? The simple answer to that is, if this site gets more traffic than yours, then it is generally a good place to consider putting your guest blog posts on.
The other two criteria come down to social elements. So first of all, we’re looking at reach. You want to know how far this site has its reach: you can have a look at individual blog posts and check the social shares: how many Likes or LinkedIn shares or Tweets have gone out for the post on this particular site?
The other thing to look at is engagement. How engaged are their community? Because really, you want to be attracting an engaged audience to your website. So check to see if there are blog comments on that blog, if people are getting involved. Perhaps even look at their social media channels: do they have high engagement there? Are people liking their posts, sharing their posts, getting involved in their social media world?
These are 4 simple criteria that you can take into consideration when looking for places to put content as far as guest blog posting is concerned. If you can find sites that reach all of these four criteria, then I would be going for it.
Just remember it is not going to give you any link juice or love from Google as far as linking back to your site. Remember the aim of the game here is to attract targeted leads and customers into your business.
I am all for guest blog posting and I strongly suggest that you consider this strategy in your digital marketing campaign as well.
That’s all we have for today; my name is Fiona Soutter from Super Savvy Business and we will see you in the next update!
