Hi, Fiona Soutter here from Super Savvy Business with this week’s Traffic and SEO Word of the Week update.
0:16 – Today I’m serving ShortCutts. Want some?
As an online marketer it is very important to stay on top of the news, especially when it comes to what Google itself is saying. And Matt Cutts is one of the people that is a really good idea to follow. This week I came across a new website called TheShortCutts.com, which is a compilation of all the videos Matt Cutts has released over the last few years.
Now, it is a really easy site to use and it is great to be able to find the answers you want extremely quickly. Just about every video Matt Cutts has released is on this site, with a question underneath the video and a very short answer underneath it; so it is a great way to find answers to your questions and a very quick way too.
So, for example, one of the things he covers is, “How important is the keyword metatag?”. It’s just about every topic you can imagine in relation to online marketing… it’s all covered in this site and with Matt Cutts’ videos. For example, “How important is using the metatag for keywords?”; another one is, “Which ranking signals do SEO people worry about way too much?”.
Now, if you want to go and have a look, and find out some answers to some answers to your burning questions, then I suggest you have a look at this site; it’s called theshortcutts.com – and let me know what you think of it!
1:36 – Using Google Alerts to spot guest blogging opportunities
Now, here’s another tip for you: if you are looking for places to be able to place content that will have backlinks back to your authority site, why not try using Google Alerts? Put your main keywords into Google Alerts and see which sites are publishing content that is on your topic.
Have a look at those, and if they are not competitors, perhaps you might want to approach those sites and offer to do guest blog posts.
2:01 – Putting all your (eggs) keywords in the Zite basket
You can also do something similar using one of my favourite mobile apps, and that is called Zite. Zite is a really great way to aggregate all sorts of information on your main keywords and bring it all into one place, so you can pull up all the starter while you are on the go, whether that be on your smartphone, or if you’ve got a tablet device, you could do the same.
It works pretty much the same way as Google Alerts do, but you can obviously subscribe to feeds and have all different content coming into your one account.
2:32 – How can you know what content goes viral?
Finally, on the topic of earning links instead of building links, one thing that would be really handy to know is knowing what goes viral in the space of social media when it comes to your market or your niche.
So is there an easy way to do this? Is there an easy way to search for this type of content?
Well, yes, there is, and this is the good news. There is a great tool called Social Mention, which allows you to analyse what sort of content is actually going viral rather than you having to go out and manually create links. Wouldn’t that be fantastic if you had that type of information?
So there you have it: a couple of very quick and short ideas to stay on top of the news, to come up with places for you to add your own content, but also to analyse what sort of content is going viral out there, so you too can be a publishing content that people just love and want to share.
3:25 – Great images get shared
Don’t forget that having good quality images on your content is another great way to encourage people to share it. Because people love to share content that looks great. So get some really good quality images – maybe work with a photographer or graphic designer – because it really does make you stand out from the crowd when you have images that are not the same as everybody else’s.
So I hope you found these tips useful. My name is Fiona Soutter from Super Savvy Business with this week’s Traffic and Word of the Week update. Take care and we’ll see you next week!
